The Details

All of my portrait drawings are hand drawn to a very high standard, using high quality coloured pencils. I work from your own photos to create highly realistic portraits of your beloved pets that showcase their personality.

Drawings are created on white paper. I do stock grey for A5 and A4 portraits but personally I would recommend white paper for all coat colours however if you would prefer grey please let me know. I also have standard sizes but I am happy to create custom sizes for customers.

Can't wait for your animal to be my next muse?

"Emma has done two portraits for me, both for my cats who have passed. Not only is she extremely talented, but she is compassionate and was so kind in our interaction and in her sweet note that she sent with the portrait. I love the art I have of my babies and I couldn’t thank her enough!"

The Creation Process

How it works - A guide to your portrait drawing
Step 1

Choosing Your Options

Perhaps the most important step - choosing your photo. Generally, the better the photo the better the drawing! I can create the best portraits from good quality images where I can clearly see the different details, fur patterns and direction of the coat. Photos that are taken at your pets level and in natural light without harsh shadows make great reference photos as these are the most flattering angles and I will also get the most accurate reference for your pet or horse's colouring. A top tip for a reference photo is to make sure there's a glint of light in the eyes as this really adds life to the drawing.

However, the most important thing by far for a reference image is to make sure your pet's personality shines through so I can really capture them on paper. If you don't have an ideal photo, please send over any possibles and we can choose the best one together. I can always use multiple references to get the detail I need so do not worry if you don't think you have the 'perfect' reference.

The next step is to choose a drawing size that meets your requirements, see below for your options.

Step 2

Pencil to Paper

Now for the most exciting part - creating your drawing! Once you are at the top of my waitlist I will let you know I am about to make a start.  Unless you have asked me not to, I will probably post work in progress photos on my social media so you can watch your drawing progressing. If your order is a surprise gift please let me know and I won't post anything online.

Once I am all finished, it's time for the big reveal! I will send a photo of the finished drawing so you can ask for any minor changes you may want. When you are 100% happy I will spray the drawing with a fixative spray to protect it against UV rays and smudging.

Step 3

The Finishing Touches

After your drawing is finished, this is the stage you can add the finishing touches to your order. If you have chosen to also have prints of your original drawing I will get these printed to send out with your portrait so everything arrives together. Prints are very popular for drawings of pets from a large family, often a commission is created for the parents and children who grew up with the pet have prints for themselves too.

If you have chosen to add a mount to your drawing then this is the step where I will get your portrait mounted and ready to send to you.

When everything is finished your drawing will be safely wrapped and packaged and sent to you using tracked delivery.

FAQs

FAQs

Still got some questions? Maybe these will help...

Do you post internationally?

Yes I do! Please note, prices included tracked UK postage but international postage will be additional. Please also note that you are likely to receive an import fee in certain countries so bear this in mind in regards to your budget.

How do you create the artwork?

I use the best quality pencils from faber castell and caran dache and I use heavyweight drawing paper. I then use a fixative spray to protect against UV rays and smudging so your drawing will last a very long time.

Can you remove things from the reference?

Yes, I am happy to remove things from reference photos. I am regularly asked to remove leads/harnesses. I can also remove headcollars/bridles from horses. As long as I have a few photos to refer to, this is not a problem.

Can you create a drawing for a specific date?

Yes, I can usually squeeze in birthday orders on to my waitlist so if you'd like a drawing for a specific date please state this when you enquire.

Please note, Christmas orders are first come first served as I get very busy this time of year.

Can I have different pets drawn together?

Yes, your pets do not have to be the same species to be drawn together, the composition will vary a little bit depending on the size of the animals being drawn but I can draw any animals together.

Can I track my order?

Yes, all orders have special tracked and insured postage so you can know where they are every step of the way. If anything does happen to them in transit then we will be able to get compensation so I can create you a new drawing at no cost to you.

This has NEVER been an issue so far though so do not worry!
