The Details
All of the pet signs I create are hand drawn from your photographs and made to order, this means that you get a completely unique plaque personalised especially for you and your pet! I have created custom wooden plaques before so if you have a request for a different wood shape or size please drop me a message.
If you are having a sign created with more than one pet then I can use separate images of them if you don't have a good one of them together. Although my most regularly drawn pets are dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters, I am happy to draw any kind of pet. This includes reptiles, birds and fish!
The Creation Process
How it works - A guide to your pet sign
Step 1
Choosing Your Options
The drawing of your pet is created from one of your own photos. Feel free to send me as many photos as you like so we can choose the best image together. I can usually work from more than one photo to achieve the best drawing of your pet. I can combine images of multiple pets if you are having more than one pet drawn, they do not need to have been photographed together.
You have some options in terms of the size of your plaque but please consult my size guide below for more information. I offer three types of finishes as listed below, you can then decide whether you would like your plaque left matt, given a gloss finish or given an outdoor coating. Your final decision is choosing your favourite font from my font list.
Step 2
Pencil to Wood
When you get to the top of my waitlist and it is time for your pet sign to be created I will send a mockup design for you to check. This is the time to let me know if you'd like any changes to the composition or the font.
Once you are happy I will then get drawing! If you follow me on social media you may see some work in progress photos of your pet's sign on my story. If your order is a surprise gift, please let me know and I won't share anything online.
Step 3
The big reveal
When your sign is all finished being created I will send a photo over for you to check and once again let me know if there are any minor changes you'd like made. Once you've let me know you're happy with it I will spray it with fixative and then varnish if you have opted for that type of finish.
When your plaque is finished it will be posted out to you.
Wood Finishes
There are three options for the finish on your plaque:
Unvarnished (Matt)
- Sprayed with fixative to prevent smudging
- Unvarnished so has stays matt like natural wood
- Only suitable for indoor hanging
Varnished (Gloss)
- Sprayed with varnish for a slight gloss finish
- Some protection from moisture/wet
- Only suitable for indoor hanging
Varnished (Outdoor)
- Sprayed with outdoor varnish for heavy gloss
- Lots of protection from moisture
- Suitable for indoor or outdoor hanging

Can I have a different shape or size?
Yes, I am more than happy to create a custom piece for you, please bear in mind though that the price is likely to be slightly more due to not being able to buy the materials in bulk.
How do you create the artwork?
I am a pencil artist so use high quality pencils to draw on wood. They are pigmented enough to actually put colour down onto wood which surprises most customers.
Can you draw different animals on one plaque?
Yes, I am happy to draw a cat and a dog for example on one sign, that is no issue! Just ask if you have any questions for a more unique order.
Where can I hang my sign?
Wherever you would like! I would suggest keeping out of bite range of smaller animals like hamsters, rabbits etc as they are likely to chew it and especially if the plaque has had a varnish coating I wouldn't recommend that.
Are the signs waterproof?
Signs that have had outdoor varnish are well protected against the elements but I can't guarantee the life of a sign due to not knowing the conditions it will be kept in. As long as a plaque has some protection from direct rain it should last a long time.
Will you post internationally?
Yes! I regularly post artwork around the world so there is no issue with me doing this for you.
