Horse Keepsake Frames

Bespoke equine keepsake frames with a portrait drawing of your horse and plait of hair.

Staffordshire based, UK postage available

Hi I'm Emma, an equine artist and huge animal lover based in Wombourne.

I specialise in creating beautiful memorial pieces for equestrians who have lost their best friends.

The feelings of loss when you lose a horse is something I think only equestrians can fully understand, these horse keepsake frames are a beautiful way to remember your heart horse and a way to honour them in your home.

The Creation Process

How it works - A guide to your keepsake frame
Step 1

Choosing your options

Keepsake frames are the most bespoke art pieces I create, so there are quite a few options to choose from. Once you have placed your order, the first decision is choosing your frame colour so that I can get in touch with my framer to start making it. The frames are designed to be hung on a wall.

The next step is sorting out your horse's hair (and shoe if you opt for that frame). I will let you know my delivery address so that the hair and shoe can be posted out safely. Please note these items are posted at the customer's expense and I recommend posting out with a tracked service due to their precious nature. All hair is washed before being added to the frame, if you would like to wash your hair before sending it that is great but I am happy to sort out washing the hair. Any hair not used will be safely returned to you. Please bear in mind that the more hair you send me, the larger the plait can be but I can work with whatever you have.

If you have opted to add a shoe, please send them to me in whatever condition they are already in, I outsource them to a local blacksmith so they can be cleaned and the clips can be removed.

Step 2

Pencil to Paper

The drawing of your horse is created from one of your own photos. Feel free to send me as many photos as you like so we can choose the best image together. The drawing itself is roughly A5 sized, as always, the better quality photo provided the more detail will be in the drawing. You will also get a font list to choose your favourite font from for your horse's name.

Once you are happy with everything, I will get drawing! If you follow me on social media you may see some work in progress photos of your horse's keepsake frame on my story. If your order is a surprise gift please let me know and I will make sure I don't share anything online.

Step 3

The big reveal

When the drawing is all finished I will send a photo over for you to check for you to let me know if there are any minor changes you'd like made. I will then attach the hair (and the shoe) and add the name. Once you've let me know you're happy with it, I will spray it with fixative to protect against UV rays and smudging. I then frame the piece so it is ready to hang on the wall when you receive it.

FAQs

Still got some questions? Maybe these will help...

Do you post internationally?

Equine keepsake frames are the only art pieces I don't post internationally. This is due to varying postage rules regarding hair in different countries. I'm very sorry to anyone outside of the UK and I would suggest looking on etsy for something similar closer to home.

I'm not sure I have enough mane/tail?

This is a common worry but it has honestly never been an issue. I can work with whatever you have, the more hair I am given the larger the plait can be but a small amount is not a problem at all.

Can you draw with/without the bridle?

Yes, I am happy to draw a bridle or headcollar if it is in your reference photo I can also not include these if preferred. Please note I cannot draw one if the reference doesn't already have one.

Can I include...?

Keepsake frames are incredibly personal, if you would like something a bit more unique I am always happy to try and accommodate so would love to hear your ideas.

How do I send my horse's hair/shoe?

Once an order is placed I will provide my delivery address. I always recommend using a tracked postage service for you to send out the items due to their precious nature. Royal Mail 48hour tracked is my favourite option.

How do I clean my horse's shoe?

Do not worry about this, I have a trusted contact who can get an old shoe cleaned up and ready for a frame with ease, so you can just post out as is.
